Moriah - Ole Time Tobago Wedding

Wedding ceremonies of yesteryear encapsulating a fusion of European and African customs (food, drink, clothing, speeches) are showcased.

This wedding as enacted by the village of Moriah seeks to bring to today’s heritage festival that tradition, complete with characters such as the village Macco, the village Speechifier and curious onlookers/neighbours.

 

The Ole Time Tobago Wedding is a grand community affair. The traditional Ole Time Tobago Wedding incorporates various rituals.

Bachelor’s Night
On the night before the wedding, there is a lively celebration with dancing and singing to tambourine music

Bridal Affair
On the morning of the wedding the various rituals involved in the preparation of the bride will be showcased.

Wedding ceremony
The wedding party assembles and along with spectators journey to the church for the wedding.

Cake and Wine
From the church there is a lively procession as the entourage dances the brush back to the Cake and Wine reception.

Wedding reception
The wedding festivities culminate with a grand reception. Entertainment is provided for the bride and groom.
